Realize Your Full Academic Potential
Our Integrated, Classical Curriculum Will Prepare You For College—And For Life
At Chesterton Academy, our students enjoy a cohesive, content-rich education. They benefit from a broad exposure to many different disciplines, which helps them expand their interests and their ability to think critically.
The Chesterton Academy model begins with a classical, integrated curriculum. Students read Homer, Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, Virgil, Dante, Chaucer, Shakespeare, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Teresa of Avila, Dostoyevsky. . . and G.K. Chesterton. Chesterton students study the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. History, literature, philosophy, and theology are braided together.
The sciences and the humanities are also intimately connected, so that the logic of math is seen in philosophy, and God’s handiwork is seen in the sciences. Faith and reason meet in every class.
Equal emphasis is given to the arts, so that every student learns to draw and paint, sing in the choir, act on the stage, give speeches, and engage in debate.
Each year builds on the previous, so that by the end of senior year, students develop into articulate, clear-thinking, well-rounded, and, very importantly, joyful individuals. Nothing could be a better preparation for success at college. Our classically-educated students fare very well on standardized tests and college admissions. Yet our mission does not end with merely getting students into college. We are preparing them for life, which includes finding their vocation.
A Chesterton Academy education helps students discern and follow God’s calling for their lives.
Grow in Leadership & Virtue
Experience True Friendship And Community Through Our House System
The Chesterton Academy House system draws on the 1,000 year-old tradition of Christian education exemplified in the colleges at Oxford and Cambridge.
Houses provide real, tangible community within the larger school, giving our students the opportunity to take ownership, to exercise true leadership, and to grow in virtue.
Each student is assigned to one of four houses for their tenure at Chesterton Academy with opportunies to lead as an elected House Prefect during their junior and senior year or Assistant Prefect during their sophomore year. The Houses are named for the four saints who hold up the Chair of St. Peter in St. Peter's Basilica: Saints Ambrose, Augustine, Athanasius, and Chrysostom.

About Chesterton Academy of Tyler
-
The Chesterton Schools Network is an educational initiative of the Society of Gilbert Keith Chesterton. The Network inspires and supports the launch and sustained operations of joyfully Catholic, classical, and affordable high schools with comprehensive curricula, operational toolkits, and services. Each member school is recognized as a sponsored organization of the Society.
-
Classical education can be described as the cultivation of wisdom and virtue through meditation on the good, the true, and the beautiful. Chesterton's integrated, classical curriculum combines a broad, liberal arts education with a strong emphasis on the development of Christian virtues and an appreciation of beauty. It is our hope that our students will be able to proclaim the truth, goodness, and beauty of the Catholic faith as they encounter an increasingly dark and skeptical world that is so desperately in need of Jesus Christ.
-
Math and science are cornerstones of Chesterton Academy's classical, liberal arts education. Advanced mathematics and science offerings are available through our Catholic-STEM track for qualified students.
-
Chesterton Academy students fare very well on college entrance exams. Our alumni are accepted at top Catholic and secular universities, and receive valuable scholarships. Chesterton students receive a solid foundation in the humanities, fine arts, and math and science, which provides an academic advantage in further study after graduation. Business leaders seek out Chesterton graduates because they are well-rounded and demonstrate an ability to reason, problem-solve, and communicate well.
-
While the Network has proven to be effective in preparing students for traditional four-year college, many of our students choose to enter the trades after high school. Given rising concerns about the effects of student loan debt, along with the great demand for skilled trades- and crafts-persons, we are introducing new curricular initiatives to better serve these students.
-
No previous classical education is necessary to be successful at Chesterton Academy.
-
Students participate in well-rounded offerings of sports and extracurricular activities. Sports and clubs are student- and parent-driven based on interest. Additional opportunities for healthy and fun competition and servant leadership are found through Chesterton Academy's House system, drawn from the 1, 000-year-old tradition of Christian education exemplified in the colleges at Oxford and Cambridge.
-
Yes. All students are required to participate in the life of the school, including daily Mass and theology classes.
-
Computers are typically not used by students in the classroom at Chesterton Academy. Computers are used for independent study and guided projects and, naturally, students use computers at home for papers and other assignments. Teachers use technology in the classroom when it facilitates or augments learning.
-
Chesterton Academy works to limit assigned homework. We seek to be efficient in the learning process such that students have time in the evenings to spend with their family and to commit to extracurricular activities and after-school jobs.
-
Each family donates a required number of volunteer hours per year as part of their annual enrollment/tuition agreement, to foster involvement in the life of the school, and help keep operating costs low. In addition, each family is asked to meet specific fundraising goals as part of their annual enrollment/tuition agreement, to help the school meet annual fundraising needs. Chesterton values parents as the primary educators of their children and hosts events to honor and include them throughout the school year, as well as spiritual retreats and opportunities for educational enrichment.
